As you venture out of the gates, there is a plethora of wonderful walks and cycling trails right on the doorstep.

Markington is perfectly located between Ripon and Harrogate. York is also less than an hour’s drive away.

Ripon

Ripon is steeped in history and offers plenty of things to see and do. Centred around a traditional marketplace, the streets are filled with independent shops and eateries. It is also home to Ripon Racecourse, known as ‘Yorkshire’s Garden Racecourse’ with 17 race days each season, including family days and a ladies day held in June.

Harrogate

Harrogate is situated just eight miles from Markington.

The historical spa town offers a wide choice of high-street shops, specialist antique and art shops within the cobbled streets of Montpellier Quarter, and a great variety of chain and independent restaurants and bars.

Cycling

Markington is adjacent to the route of the famous Yorkshire UCI Road World Championships.

There is no finer place than the Yorkshire Dales to cycle with it’s stunning scenery, quiet roads, smooth tarmac, wonderful dales and moors, great climbs and descents to name but a few reasons.

History

Only two miles from Markington is Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, a National Trust site of Cistercian monasteries. The extraordinary architecture and beautiful water gardens have earned its recognition as a World Heritage Site. The Abbey is also a great place for an educational day out, to keep the children entertained in the large play park and to enjoy a picnic by the riverside in the summer months.

Adventure

For an adventure filled day-out, Brimham Rocks is just 7 miles away. The National Trust site is set within 400 acres of moorland and rocks with a variety of walking routes and rocks to climb. The site offers children-friendly activities such as the natural playground and children trails.

For a day of thrills, Lightwater Valley is just a short drive from Ripon and is guaranteed to keep the kids entertained all day.
